Chanler Hotel Destination Wedding, Newport

Melissa and David chose Newport Rhode Island for their destination wedding weekend. The town’s historic mansions and hotels make ideal wedding venues, with The Chanler being one of the best of the bunch. Clouds and light drizzle forced the ceremony from the lawn to the shelter of the hotel’s covered terrace, the soft exterior light providing a wonderfully dreamy back-lit effect to the ceremony photos. The beauty of the venue alone makes a Chanler Hotel wedding unique, but it’s the flexibility of the venue, in this case coming up with a viable Plan-B for rain, that wedding couples truly appreciate. This also saved Melissa and David the expense of renting a large tent that they may have never used. I’ve captured several destination weddings in Newport over the years so I can say that the Chanler is truly special.

The wedding was planned for the lush green lawn that overlooks the water, but cloudy skies and light rain prevailed, forcing the Chanler to implement their carefully rehearsed Plan B…seating and ceremony on their covered porch. After the getting ready and the ceremony, the bride and groom took me for a ride in a gorgeous classic Rolls Royce provided by Walter at Lands End Limo We stopped at the beach and made some romantic newlywed portraits before being whisked to the stunning OceanCliff venue for the cocktail and reception Apparently Ecuadorians really know how to party! Melissa’s family and the couple’s friends made sparks on the dance floor until the last song.

Since I made an engagement session with the couple a few months before their wedding, I had a chance to get to know the couple before the rush of the wedding day. That familiarity really comes into play on the big day, allowing couples to feel at ease with their wedding photographer. It also gives a wedding couple that extra bit of confidence they need, knowing they’re in trusted hands with their photographer. Here’s a link to some highlights from that New York City engagement session
