I thought I’d post some images from a dressage in Southern California. I started riding when I was 7 years old. Since then horses have always had a special place in my imagination. Powerful, graceful, instinctual, and trusting…they are in a class all to themselves. When I was 10 years old I went to summer camp in North Carolina where I had a chance to ride daily. That’s one of the perks of being a stable boy. Some of the most etherial memories of those summers were taking the horses out to pasture before sunrise, something I did 5 days a week, every week that summer. We were usually a small group, 4-6 kids, riding bareback along the trails that lead to the camp’s pastures. Sometimes we’d stop on the way back to collect berries from the bushes that lined the well-worn path; blackberries, wild strawberries…amazing.
Years later I still have a fascination and respect for horses and those who are able to become one with these amazing creatures.
